Just got done jumping at a meet here in colorado, and the crossbar absolutely licked me! busted lip and a chipped tooth. Any one got a nasty crossbar story?

I think everyone who breaks a crossbar should have to pay for it. They're expensive!!

i have a teammate that must have broken 4 or 5 crossbars just last season.
what are they these days like 60+ bucks a piece?

i think soft mats contribute to bar breakage because old mats just give too much and the bars just cant bend that much.

i have also heard high jumpers argue that it hurts worse when they land on the bar.

two years ago, we had a kid come up short and came down with his feet on top of the crossbar. He bent the hell out of the crossbar, then his feet slipped of and it recoiled up and popped him in the mouth. He ended up with a cut below his bottom lip that went clean through! The trainer accidentally stuck a Q-tip all the way through it when she was cleaning it out. It was awesome!

I've only split my chin open a couple of times on the crossbar.

There was a deca from Michigan State back in 97 who broke one of our crossbars, then actually asked if he could keep it.......dummy

Was that Deca Paul Terek. He has the michigan high school state record in the pole vault. He is a crazy dude.

I once got a bloody nose from a crossbar, but it was bitter sweet. I pr'd on that jump, because my body hit the bar, but when it hit me in the nose it steadied...but it gave me a bloody nose. I also hate it when you get your shins smashed on the bar, or even better when you jam your elbow on it, and it gives you a huge bruise and swelling that you can't sleep on...the sport is Grand isn't it? :D No Pain, No Gain is what I always say!
