another my pole broke thread

Unread postby pvu-hooligan » Thu Apr 12, 2007 10:51 pm

well my 13'1 132 23.0 flex Essx Pole broke on me today. It broke in 3 pieces. I cleared my opening height easily at 10' and on my first attempt at 10'6 my pole broke. The bottom of the pole flew up and whacked me in the back of the head. I had a big bump and was bleeding. I found out later that it was from an abrasion, not a cut. so thats good news. The bad news is that i dont have a pole to move to anymore. I couldnt finish the meet. even though it sounds weird, ive always wanted to experience snapping a pole...i just didnt think i would do it today. So now that one of my pole vaulting goals has been reached, its time to get high. Well thanks for listening.

p.s. Once my coaches and friends put up the videos ill show you guys. So does anyone have a 13' 140 pole for me to buy? i need one ASAP.

that SUX i bet you were pretty mad that you couldnt finish the meet, but that is why you always carry more than 1 pole with you

Ouch! I had that happen to me in high school too (the pole breaking and hitting me in the back of the head). I got a concussion, and it sent my body into shock, so I puked.

I have broken a couple of other poles too... the biggest was a 15' 180lbs Pacer Carbon. Broke my index finger on the left hand, and to this day I can't straighten it.

My advice: jump off the ground at takeoff. I haven't broken a pole in about 5 years, and hope I never do again!

that seems like some good advise. My pole broke when i was in the rock back phase of my jump. It was actually the best rock back ive ever done. (or so says my coach after watching the video). What sucks the most is i have an invitational tomorrow, the back of my head is still bruised and i only have 2 poles: both are old school grey essx poles. the first one is a 13'1 132 with a flex of...21 i think and the other is a 13'6 129.8 essx pole with a flex of 27. the first one is heavier and stiffer the oter one is longer, lighter, and softer. Ive never jumped on these poles before today and I seem to be kind of scared to jump on them. We'll see how i do tomorrow. If my head still hurts i wont vault though, i dont want to get injured more
