Flats/Spikes

Unread postby Ins0mnizac » Tue Mar 02, 2004 10:16 pm

I run multy events even though PV is my main event. I was wondering what type of spikes to get. I am thinking sprint spikes like nike zooms or something like that but im not sure if that would hurt my PV.

Get a good jump or mid distance type spike. Something that has heel padding. They are great for all of the jumping and hurdling, and they will work well for sprinting.

of course the only real answer is to buy one pair of shoes for every event you do. And then invest in one of those HUGE roller suitcases and have a lot of fun dragging that thing to meets :D

or you could do what becca said.

Let me see, I think i brought 5 pairs of spikes when I did my hep last weekend. I think it really helps to have the appropriate spikes for each event, rather than just 1 universal pair.

yeah, that is true. they will last longer that way anyway. you will probably not have to replace high jump spikes very often for example

Can it really hurt your pv if you don't have the right pair of spikes?

actually it can.. with the right kind of spikes it can make u faster. so if u have the wrong kind it can make u go slower.. say distance spikes. they r more flat kinda cause for distacne u want more of a heel toe strike instead of staying on ur toes for sprint. so that can put u at an disadvantage than one thatsa a spritner one which is made specifically for u to stay on ur toes.
i run, therefore im buff.

The spike you wear means nothing really. Its all personal preference. Vault spikes make you "feel" like you are on your toes, but they are really no better than sprint or mid distance. I personally find the vault spikes to be stiff and heavy, so I use a cross county spike. Light, flexible, padded heel- I actually found my run is better and taller in them than in the vault spikes. Anyway, its personal preference. I've had good days vaulting barefoot, in flats, spikes, even in a motorcycle helmet. Do what you want, just run fast.
