If you could make a list of the hardest sports, which number would pole vaulting be? And which sports do you think are harder?

ESPN did a story and ranked vaulting over 15ft, the third toughest thing to do in sports.

I don't recall what it came behind. I think race-car driving was #1. Was hitting a baseball #2??

In my opinion, pole vaulting is one of the hardest because you have to maintain a certain body composition to be successful.

In most sports there are men and women who have been very successful, but would be considered medically obese.

There's more to being a good vaulter than just having a little speed and skill.

I have had this discussion with a couple of people.

I do not see how pole vault isn't number one.

If you are a beginner baseball player, and you have your eyes closed, you will hit at least one or two 90 mph fastballs thrown at you out of every hundred or so.

If you are driving NASCAR (sitting on your a**), you can drive, even if you have never done it before.

The bottom line is, if you have never vaulted before, there is no way in hell you are coming down the runway and making 15 feet. That takes time.

Vaulting is the hardest, hands down.

And if you can call a human being in such exquisite shape as Tony Stewart your champion, or call rolly-polly pitchers athletes, you aren't a sport.

yes vaulting is hard, and jumping over 15 feet takes time, but so does hitting a 90mph fastball. it is all reletive. each takes its own talent and skill. You must be a Very good athelete to vault high, but hitting a fast ball, you dont have to be athletic. Yes vaulting is harder physically but no human will jump 15 on their first day out, and neither will they hit the fastball their first time at bat.

If it is about what takes more atheletic talent, pole vaulting wins, but what is harder? who is to say.

like i said, it is all reletive...

well that espn thing is messed up because you have to be a major league athlete to be throwing 90 mph but only a high schooler to jump 15 so they dont really have it equal....

I read somewhere...........
