That pit setup in the first picture is a serious accident waiting to happen

Please don't vault there again until a top pad is put on the pit.

we have a cover but we dont have a top pad... i dont know many schools around my area that have a top pad,,

Yeah dude Becca's right, one time I got a slight concussion because I landed in one of those cracks, my head snpped by and hit the concrete pad. I was only jumping eight feet there so it doesn't matter how good you are safety first ALWAYS.

It is ILLEGAL for them to be vaulting without a top pad. Also, I can't imagine anyone sold your school a pit without one?

If I knew what school you went to I would probably call your AD and tell him not to let anyone jump there until they had a top pad. I am that fired up about pole vault safety right now

At Golden South in Winter Park, FL 1981 (or 1982) Joe Dial and Greg Duplantis were the featured athletes and the pit had no top pad. Duplantis wanted to vault with the tarp on the pit, and Dial didn't want to land on a tarp. They vaulted on the bare pit, but weren't happy about it.

I should take pictures of our set up... you would not be happy. We have a cover, but almost all the buckles to keep it from shifting are gone, so it really doesnt do much if you land in the center. You are still going to the ground. Oh yea, and our front buns arent regulation size, they the kind 2 feet high the entire way across, people kick them all the time. NOT fun.

That's still better than no cover. If you get creative with carabiners and/or zip ties you might be able to improve it a bit.

Id rather use 1/100 the money we spend on football each year and get a new mat and a good line of beginner poles . But you are right, we do what we can do.

we have a cover we use for actual meets, but it really does nothing,,, and the pit hasnt caused us any trouble for years so... i thinks we'll be okay, i mean im leaving this year anyways,,,
