Men's Pole Vault final - Flash Interviews
Anton IVAKIN (RUS) - GOLD - 5.50m

I just realized I had won at the very end. You can never be sure. I was very pleased with the height because the acclimatization was very difficult so I was very satisfied with my effort.

I wasn’t very worried about the weather because I had been well prepared psychologically as well as physically. If it wasn’t for the weather maybe I would have jumped higher.

Claudio STECCHI (ITA) SILVER - 5.40m

This has been an unbelievable competition for me. I trained for a year and a half and I came here in my best shape. I really did not think I was going to medal here after my first two attempts. But I was able to and I am thrilled with the silver.

Andrew SUTCLIFFE (GBR) - BRONZE - 5.35m

It still hasn’t sunk in yet. I think I was (ranked) in the top 10, just. I wasn’t expecting to get a medal, but deep down I was not too sure. I knew I was capable of it.

The girls’ (event) got cancelled so I thought the guys’ (event) was going to be cancelled. Coming here on the bus it was like is it going to be on or is it going to be off. The day was kind of weird.

The atmosphere today was amazing. It’s the best night ever. Every time I cleared the bar the whole crowd was going.

Pascal KOEHL (GER) - No mark

On the first two attempts, I didn’t work very well on the pole, and on the last attempt was better.

At the beginning, in the warmup, it was very good and 5.10 shouldn’t be a problem.

The weather was okay in the end. In the morning, I thought they would postpone it, but it’s good now.

I am wondering if Claudio is Gianni Stecchi's son (Italian vaulter from '80, PB 5.50m)?
