ok i was a hurdler for 3 years before my coach asked me to polevault. now im having 2 problems:
1. i try to vault into the bar instead of over
2. i spread my legs and almost try to hurdle the bar.

does anyone have any ideas of how to fix these problems?

please and thank you =]

Try not to look at the crossbar. I've found that whenever I look at the crossbar I sorta airwalk over the bar. I accomplished this by simpling closing my eyes right after takeoff. Some people try to imagine a ridiculously high bar and imagine kicking it off.

I wouldn't suggest closing your eyes. Do as many drills as possible...like pop-ups to fix the leg problems. Try to recreate that when you jump.

As for your eyes, you should look up at the bar at take off...then when it is time to drop your shoulders you will lose sight of the bar. Your swing will get you into that possition.

um, i find looking at the box slows me down, so if that happends, try having something els to consentrate on behind the pit, like a person, haha. thats what i do and i find that it works pretty good
