You can swing up to the pole, like 100 degrees? If the pole is perpendicular to the ground, swinging to 100 degrees would be past the pole?

Just so you know, I'm not a coach, so be careful with my advice, not all of it may be correct.

I found that the first step to having a better swing (for me) was to make sure I kept my trail leg extended and straight. Many times I would curl it too much. So I fixed this problem by focusing on keeping my trail leg straight at take off.

Next I set up a rope with a PVC pipe on one of my trees and started swinging on that both stationary and from a short run.

Now, I'm working on swinging ALL the way to the pole and not extend to early. I'm doing this by getting softer poles, swinging to the pole, and then progressively moving up poles.

Anyway that's what I'm doing

I think you are doing it right. The faster you swing, the easier it will be to get to vertical. Also, the straighter your trail leg, the more energy you will add to the system.
The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph
