Develop a pole that would take that sort of deformation... I'm pretty sure it would take a LONG time for the pole to 'unbend' s...

Barto, I totally agree that many times extra effort put into the vault basically ends up wasting a lot of the stored energy already saved up... But your generality that any effort after the takeoff is meaningless really is limited. You cited the force plate readings which basically only take into ac...

Basically PaulVaulter is on the right track when he commented on the absolute height; The kinetic model doesn't take into account energy applied after (and including) takeoff. For example, like he mentioned, the energy applied to invert your body is generated after takeoff, albeit some is transferre...

You sure have the bio thing correct, WashU can keep up with just about anyone there. I hope decisions come more easily to you in the future! I know my decision was a tough one, so I empathize!

I agree, the hitchhiker books are some of the best I've ever read; and I've read a lot of books! I'm also worried though that they may screw the movie up really badly and put a bad impression on the books.

I would have to put my vote on the NCAA being Nazi's. They also have that stupid logo size regulation where it can't be over 1 inch wide by 1/2 an inch tall... I think vaulters should be able to wear whatever they want, and get paid whatever they want. What does it hurt anyone (besides NCAA Nazis) i...
