I've seen a weight belt used with the rope tied to the back of it. This will be a little bit more comfortable than tieing the rope to yourself. Souleman, you might be on to something  .

Setting aside the physical attributes that are necessary to break some records, I believe this quote by Mario Andretti hits the nail on the head in regards to this topic: "Desire is the key to motivation, but it's the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commi...

An increase in stride length comes from improvement in the areas of leg strength, flexibility and running technique. As dj stated, pulling tires or sleds is a very good way to improve leg strength while maintaining proper running technique.

Well, if you follow your point you could say that Pam Manson is the best technician or perhaps Joe Dial. Many would qualify for the title. However, there are no medals for that. The point of the discussion was to discuss the relevant efficiencies between Bubka and Mack. If you are looking for the s...

How do you know he wasn't trying to achieve a free take-off? You can't see his intentions on any video. I think this debate is becoming facetious. I apologize for that last comment, I was in a rush when I wrote it and it did not come out the way I wanted it to. Based on the Athens video, Mack did n...

After listening very closely to Tim's own words about what he was trying to do in his technique at the Olympics, and studying his film I would contend that by thinking, stay tall at the end of his run and be strong in his arms at takeoff, that what Tim was doing was moving towards the Petrov model ...

I find the interest in efficiency a bit distorted. Tim was 2 or 3 inches taller that Bubby - is that an advantage - well if you think improving pole ground angle is an advantage, then extra height must be. According to your free take off, Mack's height advantage is offset based on the fact that Bub...

you stated Tim put less energy in the system and recieved more back but how do you actually know how much energy Tim put in and recieved? KE can be found by taking ½ mv^2. According to the chart, Bubka and Mack had the same mass. Bubka, however, had more velocity into the plant which leads one t...

A more complete conclusion could be obtained by using all data of 6.00m clears by all that have made this "magic" hieght. I have done exactly this. I am working on a way to most effectively present this information to everyone. Once I figure out how, the data can be interpreted and used t...

You are saying it is more effcient to run slower and use softer pole. I am a little confused as to how I am saying the above statement. You have completely misconstrued what I said. What I DID say was that Mack, who happens to have brought less speed into the plant, produced more energy out of the ...
