I had a vaulter break a pole where the end rubs the box a few years ago. She did a back flip into the pads. It was an old Spirit pole and it had just worn through the fiberglas over the years. So I have my vaulters tape the poles down there.

Altius poles have a narrower gauge than other brands. My athletes haven't complained that they are any heavier than others. We've used them for 2 years now.

To state the obvious, can you purchase or borrow a 14'6" pole?

My thinking was that if you have a volunteer, they may not stick around. If the coach has other responsibilities, the athletes will have to do a certain amount of coaching each other. If the athletes there are happy and improving, you can't argue with that.

I think it is important to pick a school that has a full-time pole vault coach, not just a volunteer, or someone that does other events. Those are the cases at Oregon.
